A motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Chef is required to join our busy kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about food who wants to build a long-term career in the hospitality industry. You will work alongside experienced chefs, gaining hands-on experience while completing a recognised culinary qualification.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Food Preparation β Preparing ingredients including washing, peeling, chopping, and measuring.
- Cooking Assistance β Supporting chefs with basic cooking tasks such as sauces, garnishes, and simple dishes.
- Mise en Place β Setting up workstations and ensuring ingredients and equipment are ready for service.
- Kitchen Hygiene β Maintaining cleanliness of surfaces, equipment, and storage areas in line with food safety regulations.
- Stock Rotation β Checking deliveries, storing ingredients correctly, and reporting shortages.
- Equipment Use β Learning safe and effective use of knives, ovens, grills, mixers, and other tools.
- Menu Preparation β Assisting with prep for daily menus, specials, and seasonal dishes.
- Team Support β Working collaboratively with chefs and front of house staff to ensure smooth service.
- Training Participation β Completing all apprenticeship modules, assessments, and practical learning tasks.

Working week
35 hours per week to start, Mon-Sunday hours on a rota basis β Restaurant hours 12-9pm. At latest 9.15/9.30pm finish time. Buses run every hour to Barnsley town centre from the bus stop situated outside the restaurant; staff living nearby also have routes home.
