Barnsley College is seeking a passionate and skilled Visual Arts Tutor to join our dynamic Art & Design Department. In this role, you will deliver inspiring lessons that blend traditional art techniques with contemporary digital practices, guiding students as they develop a wide range of artistic skills. Your role will involve nurturing their creativity, helping them build a strong portfolio, and supporting their personal growth. If you have experience in the Digital and Creative industries and are dedicated to helping students reach their full potential, we would love to hear from you.

You will collaborate with the Course Leader or Manager to plan and deliver a variety of courses, ensuring that your teaching methods align with the curriculum and support students in achieving their academic and personal goals. Your responsibilities will include planning and preparing teaching materials, assessing student progress, and providing tailored support to meet individual learning needs. You will also have the opportunity to cover lessons in the absence of colleagues, ensuring seamless learning, and updating individual learning plans to support students’ progress.

The role requires a flexible approach to teaching, as you’ll need to adapt to the department’s evolving needs while fostering a positive and engaging environment. You will be expected to support students in specialist studios and workshops, empowering them to take ownership of their learning and develop their creative practice. There may also be opportunities to act as a personal tutor, providing additional support to learners.

We are looking for a passionate, skilled, and adaptable individual with a strong background in both traditional art techniques and modern digital practices. You should have experience in the Digital and Creative industries, along with a genuine commitment to supporting students in reaching their full potential. The ideal candidate will be creative, enthusiastic, and able to inspire students while fostering a positive and engaging learning environment.

You will need to be organised, with the ability to plan, prepare, and assess teaching materials effectively, while offering tailored support to meet the diverse needs of learners. A flexible approach to teaching is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure students achieve their academic and personal goals. Additionally, you should be able to build strong, supportive relationships with students and provide guidance as a personal tutor when required.

Required

  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2 qualification)

  • Previous industry experience in specialism

  • Possess good all round knowledge Digital and/or Creative industries.

Preferred

  • Teaching qualification (must be willing to work towards PGCE if Level 5 not already held)
