Requirements:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with appropriate rights or the willingness to achieve such.
- Experience in Public Law child care cases and pre‑proceedings matters, advocacy for the council, advising children’s social workers on legislation, preparing legal documentation and court documents, advising on child protection law, and assisting senior lawyers on complex matters are preferred.
- Basic Criminal Record Check required.
- Must provide reasonable account of any significant periods (≥6 months in the past 3 years) of living abroad.
- Prepared to start work with necessary legal documents, including a valid visa. Note: the Council does not have a Home Office licence and does not sponsor migrants.
Responsibilities:
- Handle a caseload of mainly Public Law Child Care cases and pre‑proceeding matters.
- Undertake advocacy on behalf of the council.
- Advise children’s social workers face‑to‑face and in writing on all aspects of relevant legislation.
- Prepare all legal documentation relevant to the caseload, especially a wide variety of court documents, advise on child protection law, and assist senior lawyers on complex or specialised matters.
- Carry out legal research.
