About The Post

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and committed Lawyer to join the Adult Social Care legal team, providing comprehensive legal support to deliver the very best outcomes for the people of Barnsley.

Responsibilities

  • Have post‑qualification experience in Adult Social Care/Court of Protection or other relevant area.
  • Ability to represent the council and manage a caseload of Court of Protection matters, including but not limited to section 16 welfare, section 21A challenges, and community deprivation of liberty.
  • Provide legal advice across a range of Adult Social Care matters, including ordinary residence disputes, mental health and mental capacity related queries, safeguarding matters, and social care charging.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of legislation relevant to the area, particularly the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 and Care Act 2014, along with associated guidance.
  • Draft court applications, position statements, court orders and other associated documentation.
  • Liaise with external agencies and partners as required.

Qualifications

  • Post‑qualification experience in Adult Social Care/Court of Protection or other relevant area.
  • Experience managing a caseload of Court of Protection matters.
  • Strong legal research and drafting skills.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 and Care Act 2014.
