Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. We're experts helping clients adapt and thrive in a changing world. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mind-set, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 23,000 employees and spanning 56 countries.

Our people are our biggest asset as well as our largest shareholder group and are everything that makes us unique; our inclusive culture, the quality service we offer our clients, and our continued growth, all come from our people-first approach. There’s no such thing as individual success. We all need to play our part, contributing our skills and experience to make a true difference.

The role will be focused on supporting our clients primarily on longevity and life insurance risk work, with the individual expected to deliver projects across a diverse range of areas. These may include longevity risk management, pricing and structuring of risk transfer solutions, experience analysis, assumption setting, and broader actuarial and strategic support for insurers and reinsurers.

Core to the role is the ability to build strong relationships and support the winning of new client engagements, while playing a key role in delivering high quality work across a range of assignments. We are looking for someone who is energised by working on multiple projects and can bring a blend of technical expertise, commercial awareness, and leadership to support both our clients and the continued growth of the team.

A snapshot of your day as a Senior Longevity Consultant may include:

  • Providing high quality longevity (and other demographic) support to insurance and reinsurance clients in the UK and globally, either on a consulting basis or through secondment, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Supporting the development of longevity propositions and identifying further consultancy opportunities with new and existing clients.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and prospects, developing a broad network of contacts within the life insurance industry.
  • Collaborating across the business, particularly with risk transfer teams and longevity specialists, to deliver cross-practice projects.
  • Promoting our insurance offerings to a wider audience, including speaking at conferences and contributing to written materials such as articles.

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience in longevity (or other demographic) risk, either in-house at an insurer or reinsurer, or within a consulting environment.
  • A confident project lead, with a strong appreciation for audit trails and controls.
  • Experience planning projects, with a track record of delivering work on schedule and within budget.
  • Excellent consulting skills.
  • Flexible in approach and comfortable working in a changing environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting demands.
  • Strong personal values, including a commitment to professional and ethical behaviour.
  • A strong team player, able to quickly build rapport and establish effective working relationships.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a strong network of contacts within the life insurance industry.
  • Ability to generate new propositions and deliver practical solutions to clients.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching junior colleagues.
  • Willingness and ability to travel where required.

We recognise that no candidate will meet every requirement listed above. If you have some of the skills and experience and are confident you can develop the rest with our support, we would encourage you to apply. We also welcome hearing about any additional experience you bring that could add value to the role.

We kindly ask recruitment agencies to not send speculative CVs. Should we need assistance, we will reach out. All enquiries should be directed to careers@barnett-waddingham.co.uk.
