We have an exciting opportunity for an IT Operations Engineer to join our Cheltenham, London, Leeds, Amersham or Birmingham office on an 18 month fixedâterm contract. The IT Operations team maintains our IT infrastructure, supports the business to get the most out of our thirdâparty and internally developed software, and delivers IT solutions for external clients. We produce a wide variety of business systems that are used across all our practice areas.
The role involves supporting infrastructure integration activities, including system migrations, onboarding new platforms, and enabling services resulting from business change. It will ensure stable, secure, wellâmonitored, and integrated infrastructure services with a strong focus on reliability, automation, crossâteam collaboration, and tackling technical debt. Most of our systems run on Microsoft Windows servers (various versions) and Azure infrastructure, with Windows 11 laptops running Microsoft Office 365 and various business applications.
A Snapshot Of Your Day
- Infrastructure Integration & Migration
- Support integration / migration of Windows Server VMs, and Azure infrastructure (network, compute, storage, identity, monitoring).
- Assist in the migration of workloads, applications, databases, and services across cloud and onâpremises environments.
- Build and maintain integration runbooks, configuration documents, and environment diagrams.
- Ensure smooth execution of cutovers, goâlives, and onboarding waves.
- Environment Build & Operational Enablement
- Prepare Azure landing zones, network segments, firewall rules, DNS entries and IAM mappings for new or migrated services, for Production, Development / NPE environments.
- Configure monitoring agents, logging, backup policies, performance baselines and vulnerability scanning for integrated systems.
- Ensure all new services adhere to operational standards, including patching, hardening, resilience and observability.
- Operational Reliability & Support
- Provide technical troubleshooting during integration events and postâmigration stabilisation.
- Monitor performance, capacity and resilience of integrated platforms.
- Collaborate closely with software teams, service management, and third parties to resolve issues.
- Automation & Tooling
- Automate deployment and configuration tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Bash).
- Support Infrastructure-as-Code practices (Terraform/ARM/Bicep preferred).
- Onboard new systems into central tooling such as SIEM, APM, monitoring, CMDB, patching and backup platforms.
- Change, Release & Documentation
- Deliver wellâplanned integration changes with clear test plans and backâout procedures.
- Participate in CAB and contribute to operational readiness assessments.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, architecture diagrams, runbooks and asset information.
We Would Love To Hear From If You Have
- Microsoft 365 and Azure certifications e.g. AZâ104.
- At least 3 years' experience in IT infrastructure, or IT admin roles working on Windows servers, HyperâV, Microsoft 365, and Azure administration.
- Experience with SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint online â desirable only, not required.
- ITIL Foundation knowledge.
- Cyber Essentials+ awareness.
- Networking certifications (CCNAâlevel).
- Ability to learn quickly and work well in a team.
- A clear understanding of current IT developments and their importance in a business environment.
- Ability to effectively represent the firm to its clients, as some projects will be client facing.
