Barnett Waddingham is looking for an Actuarial Consultant (or Senior Actuarial Consultant) to join our Bristol or Cheltenham office (hybrid working). We are part of the Howden Group and are seeking a qualified or part‐qualified actuary with 3‐4+ years experience, preferably with DB pensions experience, to support trustees and employers through pragmatic advisory work.
Snapshot of your day:
- Calculate complex individual member calculations, check straightforward calculations, and progressively handle more complex checks.
- Undertake the bulk of the calculations for an actuarial valuation.
- Review draft client reports, advice and draft member communications.
- Work with a Client Account Manager to assess the objectives and requirements of the organisation seeking advice.
- Develop towards becoming a Client Account Manager for a number of clients and take on associated duties.
- Attend client meetings and take an active role where applicable.
- Support various client projects and work with our corporate team across a wide range of areas.
- Provide general consultancy, dealing with clients' and third‐party queries and day‐to‐day correspondence.
- Manage client work, allocate tasks and meet deadlines, working directly with senior members of the client teams.
- Design and manage surveys, using statistical techniques to analyse and interpret quantitative data.
- Use theoretical principles to establish probability and risk in respect of pension areas.
- Assist with developing practice‐area services, procedures/tools, newsletters and marketing material.
- Research new or technical topics and report back to the team.
- Check the work of others and help train and develop junior colleagues.
We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Actuarial qualifications FIA / FAA or training to become a qualified FIA / FAA, part‐qualified and making progress through the exams.
- Good IT and presentation skills.
- DB pensions experience or a solid understanding of pension basics.
