Actuarial Consultant – Bristol / Cheltenham (Hybrid)
We are seeking an Actuarial Consultant to join our team based in our Bristol or Cheltenham office on a hybrid working basis between home and the office.
This is an exciting opportunity for a more recently qualified actuary, or a part‑qualified actuary working toward full qualification with 3–4+ years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Calculate complex individual member calculations, check straightforward calculations and progress to checking more complex calculations.
- Undertake bulk calculations for actuarial valuations.
- Review draft client reports, advice and draft member communications.
- Work with a Client Account Manager to assess the objectives and requirements of the organisation seeking advice.
- Aim to become a Client Account Manager for a number of clients and start taking on Client Account Manager duties.
- Attend client meetings and take an active role where applicable.
- Support various types of client projects and work with the corporate team on a wide range of areas.
- Provide general consultancy, respond to client and third‑party queries and correspond on technical advice.
- Manage client work, allocate tasks and meet deadlines; work directly with senior members of the client teams.
- Design and manage surveys; use statistical techniques to analyse and interpret quantitative data.
- Apply theoretical principles to establish risk and probability in pensions.
- Assist in developing practice area services and procedures, and produce newsletters and marketing material.
- Research new technical topics and report back to the team.
- Check work of others and help train and develop junior members.
Qualifications
- Actuarial qualifications FIA / FAA, or training to become a qualified FIA / FAA and making progress through exams.
- Good IT skills and presentation skills.
- DB pensions experience or solid understanding of pension basics.
