Job overview
The North London Forensic Service have an exciting position available for an enthusiastic and motivated consultant forensic psychiatrist to join
the existing substantive consultant forensic psychiatrist within the well-established and dedicated Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT)
team.
The successful applicant will join a team the wider group of consultant forensic psychiatrists within the North London Forensic Service, a large
and successful forensic psychiatric service in north London with its secure care services being deemed outstanding by the CQC. The Specialist
Community Forensic Team currently cover the five London boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey, and aims to provide
both assertive pre-discharge (transition management) and high levels of multi-disciplinary community forensic after-care for unrestricted
patients discharged from secure care. The successful applicant will have responsibility for providing consultant leadership to this well organised
team in the delivery of high-quality patient care to service users.
The post holder will find themselves well supported, with opportunities for ongoing professional ddevelopment and collaborative working
within the North London Forensic Service and The North London Mental Health Partnership.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join a team of 28 Consultant Forensic Psychiatrists within the North London Forensic Service, a large and successful forensic psychiatric service in north London, with its secure care services being deemed outstanding by the CQC. The successful applicant will have responsibility for providing Consultant leadership to the Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT), where they will be expected to act as the responsible clinician for up to a maximum of 45 community unrestricted patients discharged from secure care. Application
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- Listed on the Specialist Register of the GMC Medical Register or eligible to register within six months.
- CCT in Forensic Psychiatry or general Adult CCT (with associated appropriate experience for the role)
- Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrist or equivalent qualifications/ certification
- To be “approved” under Section 12 (2) of the 1983 Mental Health Act, the 2007 amendments and any successor legislation.
- Approved Clinician status in terms of the same legislation
- Experience of assessing and treating patients in acute and community psychiatric settings
- Membership of a professional indemnity organization.
- Engagement with annual appraisal.
- Experience in multi -disciplinary teaching.
- Ability to take a leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high quality care and staff morale.
- Capacity to respond positively to the changing nature of an acute inpatient setting.
- Excellent communication skills in verbal and written media
- Team player to fit in with multi professional team
- To have an approachable attitude to team members
- Willingness to represent the service at Trust wide meeting and in discussions with partner agencies and Commissioners
- Ability to work and build relationships with other agencies and departments
- Ability to work with Trust management in the spirit of mutually supportive co -operation
- Ability to drive and willingness to use own car on an occasional basis, expenses to be provided by the Trust at normal rates. There are standard methods of paying travel expenses defined by Page 22 of 24 22 national terms and conditions which vary with the degree of travel.
