As our new Carpentry and Joinery Lecturer, you will deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across City and Guilds programmes at Levels 1 to 3, helping learners build the skills, knowledge and professional behaviours they need to progress into skilled employment and apprenticeships. This is a rare opportunity to join our Construction and Building Services team at a genuinely exciting moment. You will be contributing to the development of a new construction centre while working alongside a well-established Electrical Installation faculty, all on one site at our Southgate campus. You will have real scope to shape provision and influence curriculum development, supported by a collegiate, collaborative team with strong links to industry and a clear commitment to staff development.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Inspiring teaching: Deliver engaging, inclusive and high-quality sessions across Carpentry and Joinery programmes up to Level 3 City and Guilds, combining strong trade knowledge with effective classroom and workshop practice.
  • Learner success: Track and monitor learner progress, implement timely interventions and support learners to achieve their qualifications and progress confidently into employment or apprenticeships.
  • Curriculum development: Contribute to the development, review and continuous improvement of the Carpentry and Joinery curriculum, helping to shape a provision that is current, industry-led and genuinely effective.
  • Assessment and quality: Assess learner work to awarding body standards, provide constructive feedback and participate in quality assurance processes, standardisation meetings and CPD.
  • Industry relevance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry practice, qualification frameworks and emerging technologies, and work with employers and external partners to strengthen learner experience.
  • Pastoral support: Support learners academically and personally, promoting positive behaviour, professionalism and the employability skills they will need in the workplace.

What You'll Bring:

  • A Level 3 Carpentry and Joinery qualification (City and Guilds or equivalent)
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS, QTLS, PGCE, DET or equivalent)
  • Recent and relevant industry experience in Carpentry and Joinery
  • Experience delivering Carpentry and Joinery programmes up to Level 3 City and Guilds
  • Experience supporting learners with varied needs and abilities
  • Experience developing teaching resources and curriculum materials
  • Experience using digital learning platforms and educational technology
  • Strong knowledge of Carpentry and Joinery principles, materials, methods and safe working practices
  • English and Maths at Level 2 or above
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding

  • An assessor qualification (e.g. TAQA, A1)
  • An Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification
  • Experience contributing to quality assurance processes
  • Experience working with employers or industry partners
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills or English and Maths support alongside vocational delivery
