Business and Travel Lecturers are at the heart of the Business, Travel and IT team at Barnet and Southgate College. Based at our Barnet campus, you will work with learners aged 16 and above across a broad range of qualifications and levels, from Level 1 through to Level 6, helping them build the real-world knowledge, skills and confidence to progress into employment, apprenticeships or higher education.
One of the distinctive features of this role is its variety. You will work across different levels and subject areas within business and travel, developing your own breadth of knowledge and keeping your teaching fresh and engaging. You will be joining a genuinely collaborative, supportive team that invests in each other as well as its learners, and you will have real scope to open doors for learners who might not otherwise have access to the opportunities the sector can offer. Key Responsibilities
- Outstanding teaching: Deliver high-quality, innovative teaching, learning and assessment across Business and Travel programmes from Level 1 to Level 6, using digital and ILT strategies to increase learner participation, confidence and independent learning.
- Learner success: Enable diverse learners aged 16 and above to achieve strong pass rates and progress into employment, apprenticeships or higher education, developing real-world business and travel industry skills along the way.
- Pastoral support: Act as a personal tutor, supporting the highest levels of attendance and actively improving retention, motivation and progression through targeted support, coaching and intervention, including engagement with parents where appropriate.
- Employer engagement: Support employer engagement and enrichment activities that raise aspirations and open pathways into business and travel careers that learners may not previously have had access to.
- Team contribution: Play an active role in a collaborative, evolving department, contributing to the team's continued strong performance and helping the college remain innovative and employment-focused.
- CPD and growth: Commit to your own professional development, working with employers and external agencies to keep your subject knowledge current and ensure learners benefit from up-to-date, industry-relevant teaching.

Essential
- A Level 3 or above qualification in Business, Travel, Tourism or a related subject area
- Experience in the business or travel sector, a teaching setting, or both
- Experience working collaboratively within teams
- Strong IT skills and excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above
- A professional, approachable manner and commitment to learner outcomes
- Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding
