Aviation and Travel Lecturers sit at the heart of the Business, Travel and IT team at Barnet and Southgate College. Based at our Barnet campus, you will work with learners aged 16 and above across a broad range of qualifications and levels, from Level 1 through to Level 6, helping them build the knowledge, skills and industry awareness they need to progress into employment, apprenticeships or higher education.

You will have the opportunity to work with external aviation partners and agencies as part of the role, keeping your own expertise current while bringing authentic, real-world experience directly into your teaching. You will also have the flexibility to work across aviation, travel and business areas, giving both you and your learners real breadth of experience. You will be joining a high-performing, supportive team that consistently achieves some of the strongest attendance, achievement and success rates in the college. Key Responsibilities
- Outstanding teaching: Deliver high-quality, innovative teaching, learning and assessment across Aviation and Travel programmes from Level 1 to Level 6, using digital and ILT strategies to increase learner participation, confidence and independent learning.
- Learner success: Enable diverse learners aged 16 and above to achieve strong pass rates and progress into employment, apprenticeships or higher education, developing real-world aviation and travel industry skills along the way.
- Pastoral support: Act as a personal tutor, supporting the highest levels of attendance and actively improving retention, motivation and progression through targeted support, coaching and intervention, including engagement with parents where appropriate.
- Industry partnerships: Work with external aviation partners and agencies to enrich learning, keep your own knowledge current and open up pathways and experiences for learners that go beyond the classroom.
- Employer engagement: Support employer engagement and enrichment activities that raise aspirations and create access to aviation and travel careers learners may not previously have considered.
- Team contribution: Play an active role in a collaborative, evolving department, working flexibly across aviation, travel and business areas as required and contributing to the team's continued strong performance.
- CPD and growth: Commit to your own professional development, working with employers and external agencies to keep your subject knowledge current and your teaching industry-relevant.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
We are looking for forward-thinking individuals with genuine aviation or travel sector knowledge and a commitment to making a real difference for their learners.
Essential
- A Level 3 or above qualification in Aviation, Business, Travel, Tourism or a related subject area
- Experience in the aviation or travel sector, a teaching setting, or both
- Experience working collaboratively within teams
- Strong IT skills and excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above
- A professional, approachable manner and commitment to learner outcomes
- Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding

- A degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject area
- A teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
