As our new Sports Lecturer, you will bring the world of sport to life in the classroom and far beyond it. Based at our vibrant Colindale campus, you’ll deliver engaging, practical and theory-based teaching across sport-related programmes at Levels 1–3, helping learners build the skills, confidence and qualifications they need to thrive. Beyond the classroom, you’ll be connecting learners to real industry pathways, through employer partnerships, academy links, competitions and enrichment activities, and you’ll have real influence in shaping the curriculum you teach. Whether you’re coaching on the gym floor, facilitating a performance analysis session or helping a learner navigate their next step into employment or higher education, every day brings something different.

Key Responsibilities
- Inspiring teaching: Deliver high-quality, inclusive sessions across sport-related programmes, from sports science theory to practical gym and coaching work.
- Learner success: Track progress, support achievement and help learners take their next step with confidence.
- Industry connections: Build links with employers, academies and leisure providers to bring real-world relevance to every lesson.
- Curriculum shaping: Contribute your expertise to curriculum development, quality improvement and enrichment planning.
- Assessment & compliance: Manage assessment and internal quality assurance processes to awarding body standards, including tracking learner evidence and preparing for external verification.
- Enrichment & events: Get involved in competitions, open days and other activities that bring the curriculum to life.
- Pastoral support: Act as a tutor and mentor, helping learners navigate challenges and supporting their wellbeing alongside their academic progress.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
- A degree or equivalent professional qualification in Sport, Sports Science, Fitness or a closely related field.
- A teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE/CertEd/DET) or genuine commitment to achieving one.
- Relevant vocational sport or fitness qualifications (e.g. Gym Instructor, Sports Coaching or equivalent).
- Recent industry experience in sport, fitness, coaching or leisure environments.
- Experience delivering sport qualifications at Level 1–3 (e.g. BTEC, NCFE, OCR, Sports Leaders).
- Strong knowledge of sport, fitness, health and exercise science, with practical coaching skills.
- A confident, positive approach to behaviour management in both classroom and practical settings.
- English and Maths at Level 2 or above (or equivalent).
- Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding.
Even Better If You Have…
- Experience teaching, training or assessing in an FE, HE or training provider setting.
- An assessor or IQA qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
- Experience developing curriculum, creating resources or leading a course area.
- Links to sports clubs, leisure centres, academies or uniformed services pathways.
- Experience supporting learners into employment, apprenticeships, higher education or elite sport.
