You will bring together IT Support and IT Infrastructure into a single, coordinated function, providing senior operational leadership across all College sites. You will be accountable for service performance, cyber security, disaster recovery and operational resilience, owning end-to-end service delivery and ensuring that every member of staff and every student benefits from reliable, secure and user-focused IT services.

The Technology Innovation and Development department is going through an important period of growth and investment, with current priorities spanning service improvement, infrastructure resilience, cyber security maturity, cloud platform expansion and the better integration of Support and Infrastructure services. You will work closely with experienced technical teams and have real scope to influence operational standards, processes, reporting and the future direction of services across the College. This is a role for someone who wants to lead, not just manage.

The TID department operates across a multi-campus environment and has a strong culture of teamwork, continuous improvement and practical problem-solving. The College continues to expand its use of cloud platforms, digital services and modern infrastructure technologies, and this role sits at the heart of that agenda. You will be contributing to the College's management team and deputising for the Director of Technology Innovation and Development, with the backing and visibility that comes with a senior leadership position.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Service delivery: Lead IT service delivery across all College sites, owning end-to-end performance including incident management, escalation, and continuous service improvement, and setting, monitoring and reporting against SLAs and KPIs.
  • Cyber security and resilience: Hold accountability for cyber security, including incident oversight, and for the implementation and regular testing of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Infrastructure and integration: Ensure effective integration between IT Support and IT Infrastructure to provide a seamless service, and oversee the management and support of application software across the College.
  • Operational leadership: Line manage the IT Support Team Manager and IT Infrastructure Team Manager, ensuring effective resource planning, prioritisation and performance management across both teams.
  • Policies and standards: Develop, implement and maintain IT operational policies, standards and procedures in line with legal and regulatory requirements, and oversee asset management, licensing and system documentation.
  • Stakeholder and supplier management: Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers in relation to infrastructure, applications and IT services, ensuring effective and value-for-money delivery.
  • Strategy and transformation: Support the Director in delivering the College's IT and digital strategy, contribute to wider transformation initiatives and lead on operational risk management including cyber security and service continuity.
  • Senior contribution: Contribute as a member of the College management team, deputise for the Director as required, and represent IT in College-wide activities, meetings and projects.

What You'll Bring

Essential

  • A degree or equivalent professional qualification in IT or a related field.
  • Significant experience managing IT teams and services, ideally in an education or similarly complex environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience managing or integrating IT infrastructure, networks and cloud-based services (e.g. Microsoft 365, Azure, Google Workspace) alongside end-user support.
  • Experience managing or contributing to cyber security frameworks and compliance (e.g. Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001).
  • Experience developing and implementing IT policies and procedures.
  • Ability to set and monitor SLAs and KPIs, analyse helpdesk data and drive service improvement.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer service ethos.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong documentation skills for procedures, policies and technical configurations.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Willingness to work across all College sites and outside normal hours as required.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding.

Even Better If You Have...

  • A management qualification.
  • A cyber security certification (e.g. CISSP, CISM).
  • Microsoft or Cisco certifications.
  • Experience with ITIL or other quality management frameworks.
  • Project management and digital transformation experience.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in educational technology.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and contracts.
  • Experience with scripting (e.g. PowerShell) and Microsoft Power Automate.
  • Experience supporting Apple devices and a range of operating systems including Linux.
