Barnet & Southgate College is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Lecturer and Course Leader to deliver and lead the UAL Level 2 Creative Media – Games Design programme within our Creative Industries Department. This role is ideal for an educator with strong games design, animation and digital production skills, who is passionate about supporting learners at the start of their creative and technical journey. You will help students build the foundations required to progress to Level 3 Games Design, Animation, Media or related creative pathways.

The Role

As Course Leader, you will be responsible for the planning, delivery and quality assurance of the Level 2 Games Design programme. You will deliver engaging, inclusive and practical lessons introducing learners to 2D and 3D game creation, animation and interactive media workflows, using industry‑relevant software. You will monitor learner progress and attendance, assess student work against UAL criteria, and ensure a positive learning environment that supports progression and achievement. As a personal tutor, you will provide pastoral support, guidance and progression advice, working closely with curriculum and support teams.

What You Will Teach

  • Core games design principles, mechanics and level design
  • Creation of 2D and 3D games and game assets
  • Introductory animation for games and interactive media
  • Digital production workflows and project planning
  • Development and presentation of portfolios and playable outcomes

Industry‑Standard Software

You will support learners using a range of industry‑standard tools, such as:

  • Game engines: Unity, Unreal Engine, GameMaker or similar
  • 3D modelling & animation: Blender (or equivalent)
  • 2D graphics & animation: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and related animation tools
  • Supporting tools for asset creation, prototyping and interactive design

Essential Requirements

  • BA (Hons) in Games Design, Creative Media, Animation, Digital Design or a related discipline
  • Recognised UK teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards)
  • Experience teaching Games Design, Media, Animation or interactive content at Level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Strong working knowledge of software used to create 2D and 3D games and animation
  • Experience of assessment and feedback within a vocational or portfolio‑based curriculum
