About Barnet and Southgate College: We change lives, empower individuals and connect communities. We are an ambitious, forward-thinking further education college in North London, proud to serve diverse communities across Barnet, Southgate and beyond. Our 2030 Vision is bold: to be a leading provider of learning and skills development, fostering exceptional educational experiences, driven by innovation, collaboration and excellence. Our Education and Care department serves learners at every stage of their Early Years and childcare journey, from those taking their very first steps into the sector through to Higher Education level. The foundation programmes are where that journey begins, and the lecturer who teaches them plays a vital role in shaping whether learners go on to fulfil their potential. You will be joining a team that understands that importance and takes it seriously.

What You'll Be Doing: Here is a flavour of what you will be getting involved in:

  • Inspiring teaching: Plan and deliver high-quality, motivating and inclusive sessions across foundation and higher-level Childcare and Supporting Teaching and Learning programmes, adapting your approach to meet the needs of learners from diverse backgrounds and at different stages of their development.
  • Learner success: Monitor and track learner progress, maintain accurate records and statistical data, and ensure learners have the academic and pastoral support they need to achieve, progress and move confidently into the sector or further study.
  • Course leadership: Act as Personal Tutor and/or Course Leader, monitoring attendance, liaising with parents and guardians, supporting quality assurance activity and taking responsibility for the smooth running of your programme areas.
  • Curriculum development: Contribute to curriculum planning, development and improvement, individually and as part of the wider Education and Care team, keeping provision current and well aligned to sector expectations and awarding body requirements.
  • Work placements: Support the development and management of appropriate and safe work placement opportunities, helping learners connect theory to real Early Years and childcare practice in the field.
  • Wider contribution: Participate in induction, open days, advice and guidance events, parents evenings and enrolment, and contribute to quality assurance and inspection preparation across the department.

What You'll Bring: We are looking for an Early Years professional with the subject knowledge, teaching skills and commitment to give foundation learners the best possible start.

  • Essential:
  • A relevant degree in Early Years, Childcare, Education or a closely related subject
  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE/CertEd or equivalent)
  • Relevant vocational experience in Early Years, childcare or a related sector

  • Experience of teaching learners across a range of abilities, ages and backgrounds, including those at the start of their learning journey
  • Proven classroom management and administrative skills
  • Good IT skills and ability to contribute to the development of ILT strategies
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, under pressure and to deadlines
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding
  • Even Better If You Have:
