Barnardo's Cymru is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Project Worker 2 to join our Cyfle Children and Young People's Substance Use Service (CYPSMS).

This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with children and young people navigating difficulties relating to substance use, mental health and emotional wellbeing, helping them build resilience, reduce harm and achieve better outcomes.

About Cyfle

Cyfle, Barnardo's Cymru has a specialist Children and Young People's Substance Use Service, providing prevention, early intervention and treatment support for young people up to the age of 25.

Working across Denbighshire and Conwy, our multi-disciplinary team collaborates with schools, youth services, health professionals, social care, and community organisations to deliver a comprehensive and integrated service that responds to the diverse needs of children, young people and their families.

The Role

As a Project Worker 2, you will deliver targeted Tier 3 interventions alongside early help and prevention services for children and young people affected by substance use and related issues.

You will provide both one-to-one and group-based interventions in a variety of settings, supporting young people to understand risks, reduce harm, improve wellbeing and make positive life choices.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering targeted prevention, early intervention and treatment services to children and young people.
• Providing psychosocial interventions relating to substance use, mental health and emotional wellbeing.
• Undertaking assessments and developing person-centred plans of support.
• Identifying risk and making referrals to appropriate services where required.
• Managing a caseload and delivering effective, evidence-based interventions.
• Planning, reviewing and coordinating programmes of care.
• Developing positive relationships with partner agencies and community organisations.
• Delivering awareness-raising and capacity-building work within schools and youth settings.
• Recording outcomes and contributing to monitoring and evaluation requirements.

You will have

• Significant substance use practice and experience
• Experience of face-to-face advice work and/or counselling with children and young people.
• Demonstrable experience of working in a childcare/family setting.
• Demonstrable experience of assessment/case management and therapeutic work with families/individuals
• Demonstrable knowledge of issues facing children and young people and experience of working with families where mental health and alcohol / substance use is an issue.
• Current knowledge of drug and alcohol use/effects and harm reduction strategies in substance misuse field.
• Knowledge and understanding of child development and issues relating to child protection.
• Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to risk of harm to others and self.
• Demonstrable knowledge of motivational issues in relation to drug/alcohol users.
• Knowledge of HIV and other blood-borne infections.
• Knowledge of local provision.
• Good communication skills including report writing.
• Demonstrable experience of evidence-based monitoring/evaluation tools.
• Experience of advocacy on behalf of young people.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
• Ability to travel throughout the locality to meet the requirements of the post.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in Welsh. (D)
