Part-Time Family Support Worker (30 Hours per Week)

Community Hub, Woking
Fixed-Term Contract - 2 Years (Grant Funded)

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Part-Time Family Support Worker (30 hours per week) to join our team in an exciting new role within our newly established Community Hub in Woking. This hub has successfully been funded through the Crisis and Resilience grant.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and families by providing early help interventions, practical support, advice and signposting within a vibrant and innovative community setting. Working collaboratively with families, partner agencies and community services, you will help improve outcomes, build resilience and strengthen local support networks through the Community Hub.

About Us

Surrey Family Centres are a commissioned service supporting children, young people and families with complex and multiple needs across Surrey. We work with children and young people aged 0-19 years, or up to 25 years for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

For this role, you will be based within our new Community Hub in Woking, working alongside consortium partners to provide direct support to the local community. The post will also include one Friday evening per month supporting the Hub's youth provision through drop-in advice and guidance sessions for young people and their parents/carers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based interventions with children, young people and families, demonstrating positive outcomes and impact.
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 20-30 families requiring Emerging Needs support.
  • Facilitate group work, workshops and parenting programmes within the Hub and at venues across Woking when required.
  • Work closely with colleagues and partner agencies to ensure a truly integrated and collaborative service offer.
  • Support the development of the Community Hub as a welcoming, safe and accessible place for families to seek help, information and support through 'warm referrals'.
  • Provide support within the Hub and undertake home visits where appropriate, feasible and with family consent.
  • Promote safeguarding and ensure the welfare of children remains central to all interventions.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and professional case records using the shared consortium partnership systems.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in working directly with families facing complex and multiple challenges.
  • Knowledgeable about issues including family breakdown, domestic abuse, parental mental health, substance misuse and supporting children with additional needs.
  • Skilled in building positive relationships with families from diverse cultural backgrounds and able to work sensitively and inclusively.
  • Confident in advocating for families and appropriately challenging professionals where necessary to promote the rights and best interests of service users.
  • Approachable, non-judgemental, compassionate, creative and resilient, with a genuine commitment to supporting others.
  • Highly organised with excellent time-management and prioritisation skills.
  • Experienced in multi-agency working and partnership collaboration.
  • Able to work holistically with families while maintaining a clear focus on improving outcomes for children and keeping them safe.
  • Competent in assessing family functioning, relationships, routines and dynamics to identify underlying needs and strengths.
  • Experienced in maintaining high-quality case records and understanding the importance of accurate and timely documentation.
  • Able to travel independently across the borough and therefore have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
  • Experienced or confident in delivering group sessions, workshops or programmes.

Why Join Us?

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a developing Community Hub model that brings services together for the benefit of children, young people and families. You will join a supportive team committed to early intervention, partnership working and making a meaningful difference within the local community.
