We are excited to announce that, due to increased numbers of learners, we are looking for a part time, term time only Learning Support Assistant to work at our Centre in Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham. We have a high number of learners who need special educational needs and need additional help whilst in the classroom. We are looking for someone who has a real passion for working with young people aged 16+ to help make a difference to their learning experience, which will then help them to progress into either further education, apprenticeships or employment.

Job Purpose: The successful application will be under the direct/instruction of Teaching Staff or appropriate Team Manager, to provide general support to staff and students.

Key Responsibilities are:

  • Supporting Teaching and learning in the Centre
  • Caring for the welfare of pupils in school and providing pastoral support when needed
  • Work as a team to ensure smooth delivery of qualifications
  • Organising equipment and resources and assisting with administration tasks
  • Assisting with behaviour management of pupils
  • Getting to know students and their individual needs (accessing Educational Health Care plans)
  • Upholding Barnardo's Basis and Values

The successful applicant will need to have the following:

  • Some previous experience of working in a school setting and providing support to young people
  • Possess or be willing to work towards an NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification as well as possessing good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Have a real passion for making a difference to young people's lives helping them to progress into apprenticeships or employment.
