Role Description The GIK Van Driver is a full-time, on-site role based in Bellshill. This position is responsible for safely driving vans to collect donated goods from partner organizations and delivering them to Barnardo’s shops and distribution points. Day-to-day tasks include loading and unloading stock, maintaining accurate records of collections and drop-offs, and ensuring goods are handled with care. The role also involves carrying out basic vehicle safety checks, reporting any maintenance needs, and adhering to all road safety and organizational policies. The GIK Van Driver will represent Barnardo’s professionally when interacting with donors, shop teams, and colleagues, supporting the smooth and efficient redistribution of Gifts in Kind products.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license suitable for van driving, with a strong track record of safe, responsible driving.
- Ability to handle manual lifting, loading, and unloading of stock, following safe working practices.
- Experience with basic vehicle checks and reporting maintenance issues to ensure reliability and safety.
- Strong organizational skills for planning routes, managing delivery schedules, and maintaining accurate records.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact respectfully with donors, shop staff, and colleagues.
- Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work independently while following established procedures.
- Awareness of and commitment to health and safety standards in a driving and warehouse environment.
- Previous experience in a driving, logistics, retail distribution, or charity setting is beneficial but not essential.
