Role: Highway Engineering Team Lead

Job Type: Permanent

Salary: Competitive

Location: Fareham

Hours: 37.5 hours Monday - Friday 7.5-hour days (Core working hours are 10am - 4pm). Flexitime within this providing core hours are met. Hybrid working 2 days from home.

We are thrilled to be recruiting for a Highway Engineering Team Lead to join our client in Fareham. Our client is a fast-growing, award-winning structural engineering and transport planning consultancy.

As Highway Engineering Team Lead, you will support the management of a growing highways engineering team and oversee the delivery of fast-paced, complex schemes for a diverse client base.

Duties and Responsibilities for Senior Civil Engineer:

  • Lead a highways engineering team delivering S278, S38 and S184 schemes, as well as providing pre-planning advice
  • Manage day-to-day team resources to ensure efficient project delivery
  • Monitor and achieve monthly invoicing targets
  • Prepare fee proposals and manage project budgets effectively
  • Identify and secure additional fees for out-of-scope work
  • Undertake and oversee highways design work
  • Provide engineering input to support the transport planning team
  • Contribute to board reports and regular team updates
  • Drive continuous improvement in processes and team efficiency
  • Ensure high-quality drawing outputs and technical standards
  • Line manage, mentor and support the development of team members
  • Contribute to business development activities and attend client meetings

About You: / Experience required:

  • Proven experience in business development
  • Degree or HND in Civil Engineering
  • Membership of Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), or a similar professional body
  • Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred
  • Significant experience in a similar consultancy environment
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing projects
  • Strong commercial awareness with excellent client-facing skills
