We tackle the most complex problems in quantitative finance, by bringing scientific clarity to financial complexity. From our London HQ, we unite world‑class researchers and engineers in an environment that values deep exploration and methodical execution – because the best ideas take time to evolve. Together we’re building a world‑class platform to amplify our teams’ most powerful ideas.
As part of our engineering team, you’ll shape the platforms and tools that drive high‑impact research – designing systems that scale, accelerate discovery and support innovation across the firm.
We are looking for an experienced Development Manager to lead two strategically important engineering groups within Enterprise Infrastructure (EI): Security Automation Engineering (SAE) – the development arm of the Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), responsible for building automated detection and response systems; Enterprise Infrastructure Application Development (EIDev) – a new and growing team responsible for building secure, scalable applications and services for G‑Research’s corporate domain. This is a high‑impact leadership role that spans security engineering, corporate application development, infrastructure modernisation and core platform transformation.
You will manage multidisciplinary engineering teams, define long‑term technical strategy and drive delivery across critical programmes including the migration of legacy applications and the design and deployment of new systems for our next‑generation secure corporate environment. You will partner closely with security, corporate infrastructure, cloud engineering and the wider EI organisation to ensure the systems we design are robust, scalable, secure and aligned to strategic corporate goals.
As Development Manager, you will set engineering standards, establish delivery processes, develop people and build a culture of high performance, trust, ownership and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and strategy: Providing strategic and technical leadership across SAE and EIDev, setting long‑term direction for corporate applications, CI/CD, Kubernetes and automation.
- Ownership of team structure, growth planning, hiring and performance development.
- Engineering culture: Building a strong engineering culture focused on secure design, high standards and continuous improvement.
- Delivery and architecture: Overseeing the design and delivery of secure, scalable applications for the new corporate domain; defining CI/CD patterns, deployment architectures and modernisation strategies across on‑premise and AWS environments; driving legacy application migration, architectural governance and technical debt reduction.
- Automated detection & response capabilities: Leading SAE initiatives, integrating with Elastic Security, Azure DefenderXDR and AWS SecurityHub.
- Supporting the wider EI organisation: Collaborating with infrastructure, networking, identity and cloud teams to deliver the secure corporate domain.
- Operational and cross‑team responsibilities: Establishing delivery processes, sprint cadences, reporting and partnership with CSIRT, Corporate Engineering, Infrastructure and Cloud teams; managing vendors and representing EIDev and SAE in cross‑functional and technical forums.
- Systems integration: Ensuring delivery of secure, well‑documented systems that integrate cleanly into G‑Research’s technology estate.
- Technical experience: Proven delivery of production‑grade applications and platforms; strong understanding of secure engineering principles, modern application architectures and cloud‑native design; hands‑on experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines and GitOps practices across on‑premise and AWS environments; experience modernising legacy systems and leading application refactoring initiatives; familiarity with Python, TypeScript or other modern languages.
- Leadership and delivery skills: Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams, developing individuals and shaping strong team culture; ability to balance long‑term architectural direction with near‑term delivery demands; strong communication skills enabling influence across technical and non‑technical stakeholders; experience driving multi‑team initiatives in complex environments with a bias for ownership, action and continuous improvement.
- Highly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus.
- Lunch provided (via Just Eat for Business) and a dedicated barista bar.
- 30 days of annual leave.
- 9% company pension contributions.
- Informal dress code and excellent work/life balance.
