Job Overview
The post holder will support the Paediatric Emergency Department in ensuring effective organisation of reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and emergency treatment of all patients. They will manage appropriate discharge to specialist units, implement the Major Incident Plan, participate in clinical audit, committees and working groups, develop emergency treatment protocols, supervise clinical staff, report to coroners and police, and maintain clinical governance and risk management.
They will also be involved in the periodic review of PED plans, quality monitoring, and the Trust wide appraisal system, comply with data protection and all relevant Trust policies.

Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) Senior Clinical Fellow.
- 3-year programme working at registrar-level in the PED at Queens and King George\βs Hospitals.
- Study leave allowance and funding for Emergency Medicine-based courses.
- Formal departmental teaching built into the rota for all doctors.
- Simulated training.
- Opportunity to participate in research.
- Participation in audit and quality improvement projects.
- Named Educational Supervisor.
Rota & Working Patterns
Flexible rostering over a 3-month period. Shift patterns: 0800β1800, 1000β2000/1200β2200, and nights 2000β0830/2200β0600.
Job Responsibilities
Responsible clinically and educationally to the Consultants in the PED. Ensure competent clinical practice and continuous professional development under consultant guidance.
Person Specification
Essential
- Full GMC registration.
- Postgraduate qualification β MRCPCH or equivalent.
- Appropriate level of clinical skill and knowledge.
Desirable
- Previous experience of the UK health system.
- APLS or equivalent.
- Understanding of NHS clinical governance.
