The Trust seeks to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Critical Care. This is a 1-year fixed-term post, and applicants are expected to have suitable experience in Critical Care. You will join a dynamic team of doctors within the division of Anaesthesia at BHRUT, which provides anaesthetic, critical care, and pain management services for the local population. These services include elective and emergency anaesthesia supporting various surgical specialties, a consultant-led critical care outreach team, acute pain ward rounds, outpatient clinics for chronic pain, anaesthetic pre-assessment, and critical care follow-up.

BHR is one of the largest Associate Teaching Hospitals, serving over 700,000 people across two main sites—Queens and King George Hospitals—as well as peripheral sites at Barking, Dagenham, and Brentwood. The hospital is a major Neurosciences centre and is expanding as a tertiary referral centre for North East London and Essex, with additional critical care capacity. It is also a major cancer centre, actively expanding its services.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Contributing to providing a high-quality, responsive critical care service to Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
  • Caring for patients in the ITUs and HDUs at Queen's Hospital and/or King George Hospital.
  • Reviewing patients, initiating critical care treatment in A&E, theatre recovery, and ward areas.
  • Transferring patients intra- and inter-hospital.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Complying with the agreed job plan, reviewed annually.
  • Participating in emergency out-of-hours resident on-call cover for critical care medicine.
  • Contributing to postgraduate and continuing education for medical, nursing, technical staff, GPs, and allied professions.
  • Deputising in the absence of departmental colleagues during leave or short-term sickness.
  • Contributing to clinical audit processes within the Trust and regionally, in collaboration with the Audit Committee.

Person Specification:

  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Completed at least 3 years of training in Anaesthesia or ITU.
  • Ability to practice Anaesthesia in general specialties, including high-risk procedures.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Desirable: Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP).
  • Evidence of Anaesthesia audits.
  • Broad experience in general Anaesthesia and analgesia.
