We are looking for 2 dedicated Learning Support Practitioners to join the Horizons team, to support 19+ learners in class, within a dynamic and inclusive college environment. In this role, you will provide high-quality, tailored support to adult learners with additional learning needs. You will work one-to-one, within the classroom, and in small groups to help learners access and succeed in Maths, English, ESOL and vocational programmes. You will play a key role in promoting independence, building confidence and ensuring that support is responsive to individual learner needs. Through your work, you will empower learners to progress successfully in their studies and achieve their wider personal and career aspirations.

Our ALS provision plays a vital role in ensuring that learners with additional needs are fully supported to access education, develop life skills and achieve their ambitions.

The Role: Reporting to the Horizons LSP Coordinator, you will work under the supervision and guidance of lecturers and coordinators to provide high-quality, individualised support for students with learning difficulties and disabilities. You will primarily support learners within foundation learning programmes, delivering both one-to-one and in-class support to ensure students can fully access their curriculum.

  • Work under the supervision and guidance of tutors to support students with mild/moderate and complex learning difficulties and disabilities within Horizons.
  • Provide one-to-one and group support (direct and indirect) for students following foundation courses, primarily within the learning environment.
  • Collaborate with Horizons Specialist staff, Student Support Advisors and the Youth Worker to support students with SEMH needs and encourage positive engagement and attendance.
  • Use learning support systems to ensure bespoke, individualised support plans are implemented effectively.
  • Support, monitor and track learner progress, attendance, behaviour and completion of vocational activity.
  • Promote inclusive practice and positive learning behaviours within the classroom.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, supportive and engaging learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with curriculum and support teams.

Qualifications: A Level 2 or above qualification. Experience of providing effective coaching for students on an individual basis or in a group setting to support success and progression. Understanding of academic and vocational education in a College setting. A high level of oral skills, both one-to-one and in a group setting. Excellent written skills: able to compile clear procedures, manuals, guides, etc.

You will join us on a part-time permanent basis, term-time only, 32 hours per week, 38 weeks per year. In return, we will offer a competitive salary of £20,810 to £23,026 per annum including London Weighting (pro rata).
