We have some exciting opportunities available at Barking and Dagenham College. We are looking for Facilities Maintenance Assistant to join our Estates and Facilities team.
You will join us on a full-time permanent basis, we will offer a competitive salary of £26,821 – £27,554 pa inc London Weighting.
The Facilities Maintenance Assistant role:
To maintain the cleanliness, security and safety of the premises, and the security and safety of
college staff, students and visitors.
To assist in the day to day operational activities of estates maintenance across all college sites.
To provide a customer focused estates and facilities service that maintains a friendly, inviting
and secure environment.
Key Responsibilities of our Facilities Maintenance Assistant:
- Undertake painting, decorating, plumbing and carpentry tasks as required.
- Log and report any breakages or damage to any item and carry out repairs and maintenance work to a safe standard.
- Supervise contractors as necessary whilst those contractors are working on the main or any of our satellite sites.
- Open and close premises and maintain the security of all buildings. Control the issue of keys and report losses to Team Leader Facilities and Operations /Head of Estates team and act as part of the BDC security team.
- Patrol premises and surrounding areas to maintain security. Assist the Team Leader Facilities and Operations and security contractors to identify intruders and security problems.
- Carry out regular inspections of the premises and notify the Estates Helpdesk of any deficiencies as to the cleaning contractor’s performance.
- Carry out routine administrative tasks, as required.
Our ideal Facilities Maintenance Assistant should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Educated up to GCSE Grade C/5 or equivalent (E)
- Awareness of COSHH regulations (E)
- Full driving licence (E)
- Experience of building trades and all round practical experience (E)
- Good organisational skills , including the ability to adapt to changing workload demands and new workplace challenges (E)
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions (E)
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and standards (E)
