B&D Reside is partnering exclusively with Robertson Bell in their search for a permanent Financial Controller. B&D Reside is a dynamic housing provider working in partnership with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. With a portfolio of over 3,000 homes that will grow rapidly to over 4,000 homes in the coming two years, B&D Reside is at a pivotal moment of growth and transformation. The organisation operates across six legal entities, managing a mix of market rent, affordable rent, and social rented homes, and provides full housing and property management services in-house.
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for the full finance service, you will report directly to the Director of Finance and Governance. The Financial Controller will provide strategic financial leadership, stabilise finance systems and processes, and ensure high-quality financial reporting to support senior management and Board decision-making.
The role
- Lead B&D Reside’s financial operations, including budgeting, management accounts, statutory accounts, service charges, and year-end processes.
- Deliver accurate, impactful data to enable the Senior Management Team to make informed decisions.
- Drive continuous improvement in finance systems, processes, and reporting across all B&D Reside entities.
- Set high standards of probity and advise the budget holders on matters concerning the financial regulations and procedures.
- Lead, coach, and manage the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and high performance.
- Work closely with the Board, Council, and other stakeholders, providing clear and actionable financial advice.
- Support strategic projects, including the application for Registered Provider status and long-term financial planning.

Candidate requirements
- A professional accountancy qualification (CCAB: ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or ICAEW) and continued membership of the relevant body.
- Extensive experience in financial leadership within the housing sector.
- Strong technical expertise in financial accounting including lease accounting, management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and statutory reporting.
- Experience managing multi-entity structures, complex finances, and housing/rent accounting.
- Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire, develop, and hold teams accountable.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to translate complex financial information for non-financial audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills, resilience, and the ability to drive change in a complex environment.
Location
This role requires one day a week in the head office in Barking (IG11 7LU), attendance at Head Office may be required in person occasionally on other days for specific meetings.
