We are recruiting a hands-on Team Leader to work directly for Barker Ross, based on-site at a busy food packing company in St Helens. You don't need recruitment experience, but this role does involve recruitment-style responsibilities such as inducting new starters, supporting onboarding, training, and managing performance day-to-day.
The role is a practical, on-the-floor position where you'll split your time roughly:
- 50% working as a production operative (food packing / production support)
- 50% supporting the workforce, including:
- Inducting new starters (site rules, hygiene, processes, safety)
- Training and coaching operatives to meet quality and productivity standards
- Performance management: monitoring performance, addressing issues early, supporting improvements
- Being a clear point of contact between the client, operatives, and Barker Ross
What we are looking for:
- Experience working in a production environment (essential) - food/packing experience preferred
- Strong communication skills (able to lead, coach, and handle issues professionally)
- Confident working with a high-volume workforce and setting standards on shift
- Basic computer literacy (updating trackers, logging attendance/performance, sending emails)
Hours & pay:
- £13.50 / £14.50 per hour, with a pay review after 3 months
- 38 hours per week
- Shifts to be confirmed, but likely 6:00am-2:00pm, with a 30-minute lunch
