We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our finance team and report directly to the Head of Finance. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious finance professional looking to develop their career within a supportive and well-established business. The successful candidate will play an important role in the day-to-day finance function, supporting the production of management information, financial analysis, cash flow reporting, reconciliations and period-end processes. The role would suit either a finance/accounting graduate or an individual with 1-2 years' relevant accountancy experience looking to take the next step in their career, as well as candidates with 2+ years' experience in a similar position.

Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Management Accounts & Financial Reporting
    • Assist with the production of periodic Management Accounts.
    • Create and post journals to the Sage accounting system, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and within required deadlines.
    • Assist with period-end processes and ensure all relevant journals and adjustments are completed accurately.
    • Produce financial analysis and reporting for inclusion within the Board Pack.
    • Produce weekly gross margin reports for the business, ensuring all relevant direct costs are taken into consideration.
  • Cash Flow Reporting
    • Support the preparation of daily cash flow reports.
    • Assist with cash flow forecasting and monitoring of the company's short- and medium-term cash position.
    • Highlight any significant variances, trends or issues to the Head of Finance.
  • Fixed Assets & Leases
    • Maintain the company's fixed asset register, ensuring it remains accurate and up to date.
    • Calculate and post associated depreciation journals.
    • Maintain and update the vehicle lease schedule.
    • Post associated vehicle lease journals.
    • Periodically post vehicle maintenance costs and ensure costs are correctly accounted for.
  • Reconciliations & Controls
    • Perform regular credit card statement reconciliations.
    • Reconcile balance sheet and other relevant accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies where required.
    • Identify and correct accounting differences promptly.
    • Maintain audit schedules on a periodic basis to ensure the business is fully prepared for the year-end audit.
  • Tax, Payroll & Compliance
    • Assess worker eligibility for the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) and ensure appropriate treatment.
    • Assist with PAYE submissions and related payroll accounting requirements.
    • Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT Returns.
  • Special Billing Management
    • Take responsibility for special billing activities ensuring accurate reconciliations of accounts.
    • Monitor outstanding balances and follow up on overdue invoices where appropriate.
    • Work with internal stakeholders to resolve billing and payment queries.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills are essential, including the ability to work confidently with spreadsheets and financial data.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial information and identify trends or discrepancies.
  • Ability to perform account reconciliations and investigate and resolve differences.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate information.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, particularly during period-end and reporting periods.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small finance team and provide support across a variety of activities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using an accounting system, Sage experience would be advantageous.
