- Machine Operator
- Purpose of the Role
Barker Ross is recruiting for an experienced Machine Setter/Operator to join a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating and maintaining production machinery to ensure efficient, safe and high-quality production.
This role requires strong technical knowledge, problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
You will work closely with the Shift Leader and Engineering team to minimise downtime and maximise production efficiency.
Shift - 5am-1pm Mon-Fri pay rate is £15.56 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation
- Set up, operate and monitor production machinery to ensure efficient performance.
- Prepare machinery for planned production changeovers.
- Adjust machine settings for different production runs.
- Record production data and machine performance.
- Escalate technical or engineering issues in line with company procedures.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Identify and resolve minor mechanical faults.
- Carry out routine maintenance including cleaning, lubrication and machine resets.
- Perform regular equipment checks to ensure optimal performance.
- Complete maintenance handover documentation accurately.
- Escalate major breakdowns to the Engineering team.
- General Duties
- Work collaboratively with Production, Engineering and Shift Leaders.
- Provide support and cover for colleagues when required.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by management.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience within a food manufacturing or production environment.
- Experience operating and maintaining production machinery.
- Basic mechanical and fault-finding skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible, reliable and self-motivated.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- IOSH certification is desirable (training can be provided).
- Follow all Health & Safety and food hygiene procedures.
