An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll and People Advisor to join a progressive and forward-thinking organisation based in Chelmsford. With a flexible 'Anywhere Worker' policy, this role offers hybrid working, requiring on-site attendance in Chelmsford approximately once a week, depending on business needs.
As Payroll & People Advisor, you will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, customer-focused payroll and transactional service. This is a pivotal position that demands a strong understanding of payroll legislation, statutory absence rules, and employment contract compilation, along with practical experience using payroll systems and undertaking user acceptance testing.
The organisation is investing in new technologies to enhance self-service and user support, and this role will be integral in supporting that transformation. You will work within a team that values simplicity, clarity, and efficiency in all communications and processes.
Key Responsibilities:- Accurately process payroll data, ensuring correct application of statutory and contractual payments and deductions.
- Provide first-line support to employees, resolving queries quickly and effectively.
- Manage complex payroll queries to ensure resolution within agreed service levels.
- Support the generation of employee and third-party payments and ensure accurate statutory reporting.
- Contribute to maintaining data integrity and compliance with relevant legislation and internal policies.
- Assist in system testing and service improvement initiatives to exceed customer expectations.
- Provide informed advice to users across various payroll disciplines.
- Strong working knowledge of HMRC statutory absence legislation, tax, national insurance, and pension contributions.
- Experience compiling contracts of employment and inputting accurate payroll data.
- Proficiency in using payroll systems to deliver a consistent and efficient service.
- Commitment to professional development in the payroll field, ideally working towards a CIPP qualification.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage a high volume of transactions.
- Experience in a customer-facing or service delivery role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- A collaborative approach to teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of wider HR policy and employee relations.
