An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Breeding Unit Manager to take responsibility for a successful 750-sow breeding unit, leading a strong team of six and managing all aspects of welfare, production, people, compliance and financial performance.
The Role
- Take day-to-day responsibility for the breeding unit, ensuring consistently high standards of animal welfare and production performance.
- Lead, motivate and develop the unit team.
- Manage breeding performance from service through to farrowing and weaning.
- Monitor herd health, vaccination, treatments and medicine records.
- Maintain excellent biosecurity and Red Tractor compliance standards.
- Monitor production data, stock records and unit performance against targets.
- Manage feed, supplies, maintenance and site resources.
- Organise staff rotas, weekend cover and daily work routines.
- Work closely with senior management, vets and other internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
- Manage the unit budget and contribute to wider pig production strategy.
About You
- Proven experience managing a pig breeding unit.
- Strong knowledge across all stages of breeding production, including service, farrowing and weaning.
- Excellent understanding of pig welfare, behaviour, herd health and biosecurity.
- Previous experience leading and managing a team.
- Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence using herd management systems, spreadsheets and routine reporting tools.
- A proactive approach with the ability to identify issues and deliver sustainable improvements.
