Job Overview
We are looking for a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to maintain the safety, security, cleanliness and general upkeep of school sites across Exeter. The successful candidate will help ensure that school buildings and grounds remain clean, secure, fully operational and compliant with Health and Safety requirements. This is a varied, hands-on role involving general maintenance, minor repairs, site security and day-to-day caretaking duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Open and lock school buildings, carry out security patrols and ensure the safety of school premises and grounds.
- Maintain clean and tidy outdoor areas through litter picking, bin emptying and sweeping.
- Carry out routine maintenance and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks in line with site schedules.
- Undertake minor repairs, general DIY tasks and basic decoration works.
- Carry out initial investigations into maintenance issues and complete temporary or permanent repairs where appropriate.
- Report faults and arrange specialist contractors when required.
- Provide access to contractors, assist with their work and monitor maintenance activities on site.
- Respond to emergencies and urgent maintenance requests in line with established procedures.
- Assist with porterage duties, parcel collections, furniture movement and room rearrangements.
- Inspect and clear drains and gullies to prevent blockages.
- Carry out routine plant room checks and plant changeovers.
- Complete showerhead cleaning and sterilisation, along with patch painting and planned painting work.
- Ensure all duties are completed safely and in accordance with Health and Safety procedures.
