As an Architect at Barker Associates you will be responsible for projects across RIBA Stages 0–7, working closely with clients and internal multi‑disciplinary teams. You will take ownership of allocated projects, with appropriate autonomy and responsibility, supported by senior colleagues and clear opportunities for career progression.

Key Areas of Responsibilities
  • Lead the day‑to‑day architectural delivery of small to medium‑sized projects across education, commercial and residential sectors.
  • Act as the primary architectural point of contact for allocated projects, liaising directly with clients, consultants, contractors and internal teams.
  • Develop, coordinate and deliver design proposals from concept through technical design, ensuring alignment with client briefs, statutory requirements and agreed programmes.
  • Produce and oversee high‑quality technical drawings, specifications and schedules for planning, building regulations, tender and construction stages.
  • Coordinate architectural information with structural, civil, MEP, sustainability and surveying disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Prepare and manage statutory submissions, including planning applications and building regulation packages.
  • Support procurement and construction activities, including preparation of tender documentation, responding to contractor queries, RFIs and attending site inspections.
  • Attend and contribute to client meetings, design team meetings, planning consultations and site meetings.
  • Apply sound technical judgement to ensure compliance with current Building Regulations, British Standards and industry best practice.
  • Manage workload effectively to meet agreed quality, fee and programme targets, identifying and escalating risks where appropriate.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring support to junior team members and contribute to internal design reviews and quality assurance processes.
  • Actively engage with sustainability and low‑carbon design principles in line with Barker Associates’ commitment to responsible development.
Requirements
  • ARB registered Architect with RIBA Part 3 qualification.
  • 1–3 years post‑qualification experience, with demonstrable experience delivering projects across RIBA Stages 0–7.
  • Strong technical background with experience in detailed design and construction delivery.
  • Proficient in Revit and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Good design skills with the ability to develop concepts into robust, buildable solutions.
  • Confident, client‑facing approach and experience working within multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Experience of NBS Chorus.
