The Role
As an Architect at Barker Associates, you will be responsible for projects across RIBA Stages 2–6, working closely with clients and internal multi-disciplinary teams. You will take ownership of allocated projects with appropriate autonomy and responsibility, supported by senior colleagues and clear opportunities for career progression.
Key Areas Of Responsibilities
- Lead the day‑to‑day architectural delivery of small to medium‑sized projects across education, commercial and residential sectors.
- Act as the primary architectural point of contact for allocated projects, liaising directly with clients, consultants, contractors and internal teams.
- Develop, coordinate and deliver design proposals from concept through technical design, ensuring alignment with client briefs, statutory requirements and agreed programmes.
- Produce and oversee high‑quality technical drawings, specifications and schedules for planning, building regulations, tender and construction stages.
- Coordinate architectural information with structural, civil, MEP, sustainability and surveying disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Prepare and manage statutory submissions, including planning applications and building regulation packages.
- Support procurement and construction activities, including preparation of tender documentation, responding to contractor queries, RFIs and attending site inspections.
- Attend and contribute to client meetings, design team meetings, planning consultations and site meetings.
- Apply sound technical judgement to ensure compliance with current Building Regulations, British Standards and industry best practice.
- Manage workload effectively to meet agreed quality, fee and programme targets, identifying and escalating risks where appropriate.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring support to junior team members and contribute to internal design reviews and quality assurance processes.
- Actively engage with sustainability and low‑carbon design principles in line with Barker Associates’ commitment to responsible development.
Requirements
- ARB registered Architect with RIBA Part 3 qualification.
- 1–3 years post‑qualification experience, with demonstrable experience delivering projects across RIBA Stages 0–7.
- Strong technical background with experience in detailed design and construction delivery.
- Proficient in Revit and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Good design skills with the ability to develop concepts into robust, buildable solutions.
- Confident, client‑facing approach and experience working within multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Experience of NBS Chorus.
