The Role

Barings is seeking to recruit a Senior Director or an experienced Director who will work along a Director to further develop and drive the business activities across BARINGS' liquid and illiquid capabilities in institutional and wholesale channels.

The Salesperson will have the following remit:

  • Further develop the Italian, Spanish and Monaco market for BARINGS, across our liquid and illiquid asset classes focusing on prospecting for both institutional prospecting as well as the top-end of the wealth market.
  • Take ownership for their client segment, predominantly the tier one and tier two accounts and prospects, expanding and deepening relationships with existing clients as well as developing new business opportunities.
  • Work along the director and be part of its Italian, Spanish and Monaco coverage team.
  • Gather assets from new and existing clients, managing the relationship with those clients in all aspects.
  • Work with large distributors in Italy, international organisations and local distributors, both on liquid strategies as well as our alternatives into wealth effort, which is a key goal in the business development strategy.
  • Promote the company as a strong investment brand through dedicated marketing initiatives in the region.
  • Own and meet/exceed annual sales targets within assigned territory and accounts.
  • Execute against a strategic plan for Italy to achieve sales targets and expand customer base in addition to actively contribute to the wider European business plan.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships.

Core Knowledge

  • Key knowledge of the Italian, Spanish and Monaco institutional and wealth market.
  • A thorough knowledge of key competition and the competitive environment in Italy.
  • Knowledge of Investment markets and relevant products in the Italian, Spanish and Monaco market.
  • A good working knowledge of the legal and regulatory provisions associated with the role.

  • Proven sales experience, meeting or exceeding sales targets within assigned client franchises.
  • Proven ability to drive the sales process from plan to close.
  • Excellent internal and external communications skills.
  • Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build and improve personal relationships with a diverse range of people/personalities.
  • Languages – Italian or Spanish native and English are essential.

  • The ability to establish new client relationships as well as the relationship management skills to work productively with existing clients.

  • Close collaboration with client portfolio managers, client services managers and other teams.
  • Able to grasp and work across the nuances of the Italian and Spanish institutional- and wealth market.
  • Readiness to travel within Europe to build relationships within BARINGS, availability for meetings with colleagues and external events.
  • Take part in the projects across borders and help drive topics and bring new perspectives to the discussion.
