Overview

Overall Purpose of Role

Conduct investment analysis in line with Barings Equities investment process and propose potential investment ideas to Portfolio Managers and Heads of SITs

Responsibilities

Professional Development

  • Keep technical, regulatory and personal skills and knowledge up to date by completing Barings mandatory continuing professional development hours, and maintaining records in Workday to evidence achievement

Regulatory Responsibilities

  • Abide by the relevant FCA Conduct Rules and other applicable FCA rules and regulations
  • Abide by Barings rules and regulations
  • Complete all mandatory compliance training within the required timescales
  • Complete all F&P assessments and performance appraisals within required the timescales

Investment Performance

  • To deliver and/or contribute to the delivery of superior risk-adjusted returns of all applicable portfolios over 12 and 36 months
  • To contribute to the performance of the Global, International Large and International Small Cap strategies

Adherence to the Investment Process

  • To comply and contribute to the investment philosophy, research approach and portfolio construction
  • To demonstrate conviction in portfolios and ideas

Research

  • Investment Analysts and Investment Managers to produce the following documents for each company under their coverage: Company Overview sheet, Company Scorecard, ESG Considerations sheet, Earnings Model, and notes from that last five meetings with company Management, and to contribute to debates
  • Conduct research to Barings’ standard
  • To update company valuations and roll out price targets in a timely manner via Aspen
  • To disseminate information in timely manner after company meetings and results
  • To convey conviction when communicating ideas

Active Ownership

  • Engagement: Timely and effective engagement with companies on material issues. Timely update of the centralised Issuer Engagement system
  • Voting: Timely and effective voting on company resolutions

Internal and External Engagement and Reporting

  • To prepare and conduct high quality presentation of their investment ideas. Edit and complete comments on relevant market events when they materially affect the companies they
  • To proactively engage with the Sales and Marketing teams
  • Understand clients’ issues
  • Maintain a full understanding of Barings history/philosophy/ investment policy and be able to communicate this effectively to existing clients.

Corporate Citizenship

  • To maintain a full understanding of, and to comply with, all regulatory, legal, corporate and client mandate requirements that impact upon their role at Barings. To ensure that any breaches of these are promptly and fully reported to their line manager, in line with agreed procedures
  • To promote the integration of the Equity team across the platform
  • To maintain personal availability to their own desk and dependent desks
  • To undertake ad-hoc responsibilities as and when directed or required
  • Ensure effective communication and teamwork within their team and the business as a whole
  • Act with integrity, discipline and commitment

Experience/Skills Required

  • Five years plus experience working as an Equities Investment Analyst, ideally at a long-only firm within developed markets (so pan-European experience).
  • Relevant experience of Healthcare, Technology and/or Financial sectors preferred but not essential.
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Excellent communication skills
