What you will be doing
The Business Development Director is responsible for originating, developing, and closing new customer relationships for Energy Source. This role focuses on large energy users (industrial, infrastructure, real estate, manufacturing, water, transport, etc.) who are managing longâterm power price risk and considering or already operating corporate PPAs (cPPAs). You will own the front end of the commercial funnelâfrom target account engagement through to signed subscriptionâworking closely with product, customer solutions, and senior leadership to convert complex energy problems into longâterm platform relationships. This is a consultative, insightâled sales role, not transactional SaaS selling.
Key Responsibilities

- Lead discovery conversations with CFOs, Energy Managers, Heads of Energy, and Strategy teams
- Translate customer pain points (price risk, cPPA valuation, budget uncertainty) into clear platform value propositions
- Deal Ownership & Closing
- Own opportunities endâtoâend: qualification, solution shaping, commercial negotiation, and close
- Develop compelling business cases for Energy Source subscriptions, often involving multiâyear contracts
- Coordinate internal input (product, analytics, leadership) for complex or strategic deals
- Maintain accurate pipeline forecasting and deal tracking
- Market & Account Insight
- Develop deep understanding of UK and European power markets, cPPA structures, and customer decision cycles
- Feed market insight and customer feedback directly into product roadmap and goâtoâmarket strategy
- Track competitor positioning and articulate Energy Sourceâs differentiated value
- Partnerships & Referrals (where relevant)
- Support referralâled growth via advisory, consulting, and ecosystem partners
- Help convert inbound interest from broader advisory or marketâintelligence conversations into platform sales
Success Measures (What âGoodâ Looks Like)
- Consistent creation of highâquality, ICPâaligned sales pipeline
- Closed subscription revenue against quarterly and annual targets
- Positive customer feedback on commercial process and problem understanding
- Clear, actionable market feedback influencing product and positioning
Required Experience and Skill
- 5+ yearsâ experience in B2B business development or sales
- Experience selling complex, highâvalue solutions (SaaS, analytics, advisory, or energyârelated services)
- Proven ability to engage senior stakeholders (Câsuite, Directors, Heads of Function)
- Strong commercial acumen and comfort with multiâstakeholder decision processes
- Structured, selfâdriven approach to pipeline development and deal management
- Experience in energy, utilities, infrastructure, commodities, or related analytics markets
Highly Desirable
- Exposure to power procurement, PPAs, risk management, or longâterm pricing discussions
- Background in consultative or insightâled selling rather than highâvolume SaaS
Personal Attributes
- Commercially curious and intellectually confident
- Comfortable selling into ambiguity and shaping the problem with the customer
- Credible, calm, and trusted in seniorâlevel conversations
- Highly organised, disciplined, and accountable for outcomes
- Motivated by building something earlyâstage with real market impact
Why Join Energy Source
- Work on a genuinely differentiated platform at the intersection of energy markets and decisionâgrade analytics
