You will report to the Head of HSE for your area.
Supporting HSE Advisors, site teams and managers through your inspections by recognising hazards, seeking to minimise risks whilst creating, maintaining and improving the health, safety & environmental standards.
Championing HSE initiatives in the region whilst ensuring that legislation is adhered to. Key ResponsibilitiesPromote Occupational Health & WellbeingSupport the provision of Health & Wellbeing within the business, under the direction of the Head of HSE & HSE Director, with the support of the Company H&W AdvisorSupport the communication and promotion of the monthly themesPromote the value of occupational health at a regional levelHSE Advice and support to HSE AdvisorsProvide consistent and accurate HSE advice to HSE Advisors and Site Teams where applicableRender support to the region on HSE initiatives/issues and problemsProduce regional HSE statistics monthly, identify trends and take proactive initiativesLine manage HSE Advisors under your control and mentor them to support professional developmentCollaboration and Client SupportProvide Client support for the region under your controlAttend Client HSE Forums as required and provide lessons learnt feedback and sharing of best practicesForm collaborative relationships with Client HSE ManagementHSE Communications & HSE StatisticsContribute to and support company-level HSE communications and embed at the regional levelProduce and communicate HSE alerts following incidents to promote learning and prevention, and continual improvementManage monitoring of regional HSE trends, highlighting areas for improvement andsupporting Heads of HSE and Regional Leads on improvement deliverablesManage the production and cascade monthly PI posters with closing the loop informationSupport the Head of HSE for your area of the business in maintaining HSE performance statistics monthly as requestedDeliver awareness training and lead site standdownsAccident/incident investigationsEnsure corporate incident reporting timeframes are met i.e. 2 hours escalation, 2 days for initial reports and alert communication and 2 weeks for detailed investigation reports for applicable incident categoriesSupport HSE Advisors and complete investigation reviews for HSE investigationsKeep Head of HSE & local management informed on status and provide reviewed reports within expected timeframesIdentify Immediate, Underlying and Root causes within applicable investigation reportsSupport the production of HSE alerts for communication within 2 days where appropriateAct as an independent Investigator in other areas of the business under the direction of the HSE DirectorHSE MonitoringConduct regular visits to support your Advisory Team within the area of your controlPerform HSE Detailed Inspections monthly in your control with monthly targets agreed with your Head of HSE and or the HSE DirectorAct as a role model for HSE in the area under your controlMonitor HSE Advisor inspections and ensure findings are closed out on timeAgree on Advisor monthly inspection targets with the Head of HSE and monitor complianceApprove Regional Vendors from the HSE perspective, logging approval/feedback on the SharePoint systemFacilities Management at Company PremisesProvide management support for Facilities Managers at regional company premises on HSE-related issues and provisionsMonitor HSE standards at regional company premises and ensure legal obligations are being upheldAbout youEssentialNEBOSH general certificate or equivalent as a minimum, but ideally IOSHCEnv or equivalent as a minimum, but ideally associate ISEP (Institute of Sustainability &Environmental Practices)Extensive HSE experience within a civil engineering environment, experience in the rail sector would be beneficial but not essentialAnalytical skills to interpret detailed information and regulationsHigh standard of written EnglishGood communication skills, including a professional telephone mannerPeople skills ability to liaise with staff/operatives of all levels within BarhaleMS Office Word, Excel and PowerPointEffective communicator with strong presentation and report writing skillsCSCS Safety Professional cardAble to work as a member of a team, but capable of working alone to tight deadlines as appropriateCommitment to Health, Safety & EnvironmentDesirableLevel 3 AET or PTTLS preferred but not essentialWorking towards NEBOSH Diploma level 6Incident investigation Kelvin TOPSET or equivalent 1 day training courseCaring and investing in youOur values have been embedded at Barhale for over 40 years, and they are our guiding principles regarding how we care and invest in people.
