The role involves regular liaison with clients, client representatives and third parties on commercial matters, while actively identifying and realising commercial opportunities and mitigating business risk. Role Purpose To support the successful commercial delivery of projects through effective cost control, reporting, subcontract management and contractual compliance. The role ensures accurate forecasting, cash management and value recovery while contributing to the continuous improvement of commercial processes and practices.
Key Accountabilities Commercial Management & Governance Ensure internal commercial processes are adhered to across the business unit Actively seek to improve commercial processes and procedures Maintain an understanding of JV / Alliance commercial processes where applicable and support their development Support compliance with contractual and commercial governance requirements Financial Performance Ensure robust, accurate and timely cost and value reporting at the project and business unit level Produce accurate cash flow reporting Carry out cost management and forecasting activities Update monthly CVRs, cost plans and commercial plans Demonstrate strong earned value and cost analysis capability Contract & Risk Management Ensure main contract terms and conditions are appropriate, with commercial risks identified Manage subcontract letting, negotiation and financial accounting Ensure supply chain engagement under correct contractual terms Prepare applications for payment Liaise with clients and third parties on variations, claims and additional payments Leadership & Capability Contribute to effective collaboration between commercial and operational site teams Share best practice and proactively advise site teams on cost management Work both independently and collaboratively within the commercial team Develop commercial acumen and technical capability Stakeholder Management Build and maintain effective client relationships Work closely with site management to forecast expenditure and cash recovery Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers and third parties on commercial matters Support operational teams in meeting commercial and delivery targets Key Interfaces Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager Project Managers and Site Teams Clients and Client Representatives Subcontractors and Suppliers Commercial and Operational Teams Inter-company trading Proactively optimise inter-company trading wherever possible Collaborate effectively within the corporate group entities Success Measures (KPIs) Accuracy and timeliness of cost, value and cash reporting Effective cost control and forecasting Successful recovery of variations and additional payments Compliance with commercial processes and governance Quality of supply chain management and client relationships About you Essential Previous experience in the construction industry HND/degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying Familiarity with ICE/NEC forms of contract and knowledge and understanding of Construction Law Previous experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates, and accruals calculations.
Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis. Have knowledge and experience in estimation and cost analysis.
