The Role

The Site Agent on Northern Outfall Sewer Bridge 8 (NOS08) will be responsible for the overall management of the works to replace the NOS08 bridge in line with the costs and programme while maintaining the standards of health and safety, quality and environmental impact.

The NOS08 Site Agent will ensure that the works are fully co-ordinated with all external and internal stakeholders as well as the other ongoing projects within the NOS Portfolio.

The successful candidate will report directly to the NOS08 Project Manager and will be responsible for a team of engineers in delivering the work.

The Site Agent will also liaise with the Quantity Surveyors, Planner and Assurance Manager to ensure that project controls are in place and reported against in line with the required rhythm.

The NOS08 project is a mixture of direct and sub-contract delivery. The Site Agent will be responsible for the control of the works and co-ordination between parties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Management
  • Overall responsibility for the successful delivery of the NOS08 bridge replacement project
  • Deliver the work to the specified quality without defects
  • Lead and mentor a team of Engineers to deliver the work safely without environmental incidents, and to the specified quality
  • Ensure production and implementation of Project Plans, RAMS, and ITPs as well as Waste Management Plans, when specified, in line with Company procedures and Thames Water requirements
  • Ensure the commercial performance of the contract is maximised
  • Manage the Construction Programme including providing periodic updates for submission to the Client, leading collaborative planning sessions with the wider team and production of 6/8-week look-ahead
  • Produce procurement schedules and liaise with the procurement department to ensure sites have adequate resources to complete the tasks
  • Work with the Construction Manager and Foreman to ensure that the correct level of personnel and plant resource is available
  • Client interface
  • Undertake an ambassadorial role representing the Project to customers, the public and official bodies such as London Borough of Newham, Transport for London (Tf L) and Docklands Light Railway (DLR)
  • Deliver the works ensuring public safety and image is maintained at all times
  • Lead the weekly Thames Water construction progress meeting
  • Liaise with internal Thames Water stakeholder teams such as Operations and Industry Advisory Board (IAB) as necessary
  • Ensure all Thames Water approvals and permits are in place as necessary to undertake the works
  • Report safety observations onto Sphera Cloud
  • Ensure all team members have the requisite Thames Water training
  • Cost control
  • Populate and manage the Barhale cost plan for the project
  • Maximise project value
  • Ensure detailed site diaries and records are completed
  • Develop clear Invitations to Tender (ITT) for issue and be part of the appraisal of tender returns
  • Manage the subcontractor including review of claims, applications and documentation
  • Reporting
  • Produce good quality, accurate reports in line with the project reporting rhythm
  • Daily reporting to the Project Manager: diaries, allocations, photos, etc.
  • Report on progress, programme, costs, quality, health, safety and the environment
  • Maintain the reporting dashboards
  • Chair meetings as required with internal, client and stakeholder teams
  • Where necessary report the need for Early Warning Notice’s (EWN), Communications, or other project contractual communications
  • Engineering
  • Recognise the need for temporary works to enable the permanent works
  • Be cognisant of permanent and temporary works procedures
  • Raise design briefs as needed in order to progress the works
  • Review the design drawings and raise Technical Query (TQ) as needed, endeavour to spot and highlight value engineering opportunities
  • Mentor the site engineering team in their duties including site-based setting out
  • Develop the Inspection and Test plans in line with the design and specification requirements
  • Align delivery with all Quality Assurance requirements ensuring all testing and inspection schedules are maintained

About you

Essential

  • Experience of working within civil engineering as a Site Agent for a contractor, delivering projects in a highly regulated environment
  • Working knowledge of contract conditions, CDM regulations, Design Management, Programme and Risk Management and cost control, including forecasting, actual cost, and value reporting
  • Understanding of JCT and NEC forms of contract
  • Good knowledge of specifications and testing regimes relevant to general civil engineering inc. MCHW, DMRB and Thames Water asset standards
  • Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering, or equivalent
  • CSCS and SMSTS
  • Excellent communication, people, and team management skills
  • Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to a conclusion
  • Ability to demonstrate the right behaviours and lead the team to ensure the culture is in line with our Company values
  • Ability to develop and maintain a programme
  • Experience working in a high risk environment and the ability to control those risks to safely deliver the works
