Overview
Barhale is a privately owned civil engineering and infrastructure specialist in the UK, founded in 1980. Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and timely cost and value reporting at project and business unit levels to inform Group reporting.
- Prepare accurate cash flow reporting and cost management and project forecasting.
- Draft and update a monthly CVR, cost and commercial plans.
- Compile upstream applications for payment and cash management.
- Manage subcontract procurement, negotiation, and financial accounting.
- Prepare project applications for payment to final account settlement.
- Liaise with clients, client representatives and third parties on commercial issues, including contractual change, claims and additional payment.
- Forecast predicted expenditure and cash recovery with the wider project team to align with business unit expectations.
- Share best practices and advise site teams on cost management and efficiencies.
- Identify and realise commercial opportunities and protect Barhale from commercial risks.
Contracts
- Effectively manage contract and subcontract agreements, primarily IChemE and NEC forms.
- Ensure main contracts align to Barhale's corporate governance, identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities with the project delivery team.
- Procure subcontracted works and manage subcontract post‑contract.
- Engage the supply chain appropriately with correct contract terms and conditions.
- Build and maintain supply chain relationships.
Processes
- Support all internal commercial processes by ensuring adherence to timeframes and compliance.
- Actively seek to improve processes and procedures.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in the construction industry.
- Familiarity with IChemE/NEC contract forms and construction law.
- Experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates, and accrual calculation.
- Demonstrable experience of monthly forecasting and cost analysis.
- Excellent communication, numeric and computer literacy, proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work effectively to tight deadlines.
Desirable
- Member of RICS or other relevant professional body, or working towards membership.
- CSCS card.
- HND/degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in estimation.
- Experience working for a direct delivery contractor.
- Engaging communicator with problem‑solving skills.
