The predicted salary is between 35000 - 45000 £ per year.

The purpose of this role is to carry out detailed structural design and checking of temporary works and permanent works for civil engineering, and to provide technical support to assist with operational activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical design – prepare and check detailed technical designs (including calculations, drawings, risk assessments and design certificates), undertake preliminary designs, obtain independent checks and/or third‑party technical approvals (e.g. for rail works) and ensure design outputs meet CDM, health and safety and environmental compliance.
  • Technical support – provide technical information and advice, propose and/or develop value‑engineered alternative solutions during design or construction phases, undertake a technical review of method statements for complex or unusual methods, review defects or compensation events and advise on solutions.
  • Administrative support – assist with the approval of external suppliers, assist with the development and maintenance of processes, procedures and standards for technical design, obtain or provide pricing for estimating purposes.
  • General responsibilities – liaise with clients, customers, suppliers and third parties as necessary, assist with promoting best practices internally and promote the Company to customers.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience within the structural engineering field, experience in the detailed design of structures (permanent or temporary works), and use of frame analysis software, structural design software and CAD software for design purposes and sketches.
  • Ability to carry out calculations by hand or in software such as MathCAD.
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry specifications (Eurocodes, BS 5975 and other BS standards).
  • Experience in a structural engineering office carrying out design calculations, analysis and following or developing structural methodology.
  • Degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • Thorough knowledge of structural principles, construction processes and methods.
  • Good team worker capable of coaching others while exercising independent judgement and managing tasks autonomously.
  • Effective communicator able to assert own views.

Desirable

  • A mix of site and design office experience.
  • Incorporated or Chartered membership, or equivalent, with a relevant professional institution (or en route to achieving such a qualification).
  • CSCS card.
