The predicted salary is between 45000 - 55000 £ per year.

The purpose of this role is to lead and carry out detailed structural design and checking of temporary works and permanent works for civil engineering, and to provide technical support to design teams with operational activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, prepare and oversee detailed technical designs (including calculations, drawings, risk assessments, design certificates)
  • Undertake preliminary designs and coordinate with other parties
  • Obtain independent or third-party technical approvals (e.g., for rail works)
  • Ensure design outputs meet CDM, health and safety and environmental compliance
  • Provide technical information and advice
  • Propose and develop value-engineered alternative solutions during design or construction phases
  • Review method statements for complex or unusual methods
  • Review defects or compensation events and advise on solutions
  • Assist with the approval of external suppliers
  • Assist with developing and maintaining processes, procedures and standards for technical design
  • Obtain or provide pricing for estimating purposes
  • Liaise with clients, customers, suppliers and third parties as necessary
  • Assist with promoting best practices internally and promoting the Company to customers

Essential Qualifications

  • Previous experience within the structural engineering field, including detailed design of permanent or temporary works using frame analysis software and CAD for drafting
  • Ability to perform calculations by hand or with software such as MathCAD
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry specifications (Eurocodes, BS 5975 and other BS standards)
  • Experience in a structural engineering office carrying out design calculations, analysis and developing or following structural methodology and supervising team members
  • Degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering
  • Thorough knowledge of structural principles
  • Knowledge of construction processes and methods
  • Ensure designs meet performance, safety, quality and cost requirements
  • Good team worker able to coach others, and also able to exercise own judgement, work independently and manage own time and tasks
  • Effective communicator able to assert own view
  • Ability to identify structural suitability and critical load cases

Desirable Qualifications

  • A mix of site and design office experience
  • Incorporated or Chartered membership, or equivalent, with a relevant professional institution (or en route to achieving such a qualification)
  • CSCS card
