Overview
The Role
With preparations underway for the new season ahead, we have an exciting opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic individual to join our busy Farm Team. As an Agronomy & Compliance Manager at Barfoots, you will be responsible for improving crop performance through cost effective yield increase, maintaining harvest product quality whilst promoting modern processes as well as maintaining sustainability with due care for the environment. Reporting to the Head of Crop Production, you will be responsible for the day-to-day activities in designated areas, including crop protection nutrient management, problem solving and ensuring all legislative regulation is complied with. Candidates will also need to implement and maintain IPM programs, spray plans liaising with the Farm Teams as appropriate.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Planning of Crop Husbandry, Chemical and Fertiliser
- Create an agricultural chemical and fertiliser budget
- Plan application usage for all crops
- Update PPPI\βs and food expert\βs database in a timely manner
- Create a nutrient management plan
- Write deployments for digestate as and when ne
- Produce risk and spreading maps for liquid and fibre digestate where needed
- Ensure the audit requirements are kept up to date. (Assured Produce, ACCS, Leaf, Global Gap, SMETA and various M&S Select audits)
- Effective management of the chemical and fertiliser stores including monthly stock takes
- Oversee weed, pest, and disease management Strategies
- Conduct Agronomic research to improve crop yields
- Staying updated with advancements in agronomy
- Develop and manage agronomy budgets and forecasts
- Implement new precision framing techniques
- Collaborate with Chemical and seed suppliers on trials and future developments
Crop Walking
- Write recommendations for all crops, chemicals and fertilisers
- All crop protection product recommendations must adhere to EAMU or label requirements
- Ensure recommendations are entered onto Omnia in a timely manner
- Ensure IPM records are retained
- Setting pest thresholds by crop
- Proactively engage with chemical suppliers on volumes and prices
Support
- Support Crop Production Managers as and when required
- Develop precision application and growing techniques
- Writing chemical justifications for new products
- Create and maintain effective relationships with chemical companies, chemical suppliers and contractors
- Management of Internal Agronomy and trials team
- Management of External Agronomy team on the IOW and West Sussex
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent level qualification in relevant subject
- BASIS Certificate
- FACTS Certificate
- Member of the Professional register
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong literacy and numerical skills
- Conversant in the use of MS Office applications, email
- Attention to detail
- Full UK Driving licence
