Monday - Friday 8-5, 45hrs a week

JOB PURPOSE

Manage plant-wide maintenance and capital investment programmes, maximising asset reliability, uptime, and cost effectiveness with available resources.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides long-range planning for the plant and equipment needs including capital and major repairs.
  • Develops, implements and oversees predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance programmes.
  • Uses other maintenance disciplines in the development and application of reliability engineering, root-cause analysis and fault-diagnosis of equipment and processes.
  • Coaches and develops all maintenance technicians, creating individual training and development plans.
  • Continually reviews the effectiveness of the service, ensuring that cost controls are maintained and internal customer expectations are managed.
  • Ensure support & cover for the site is maintained through the maintenance team.
  • Manage and control all site maintenance and engineering activities.
  • Drive and support process improvement activities in the pursuit of excellence.
  • Work with the Site Leadership Team to ensure that the level of service meets the business needs, developing long-term plans as required.
  • Ensure that all plant and equipment is regularly inspected in order to meet current Health, Safety and Environmental standards, insurance requirements and legislative compliance.
  • Develop a high-performance maintenance team, where individuals take responsibility for:
    • Following safe-working practices
    • Improving the performance of their designated machines
    • Managing one or more functions of the maintenance department
    • Maintaining good working relationships with machine operators
    • Accurate reporting of interventions and other activities
  • Recruit and manage individual performance through formal performance review and one-to-one coaching.
  • Support each member of the team in his/her ongoing personal development.
  • Develop and implement a cost-effective maintenance programme comprising:
    • Planned, preventive maintenance
    • Predictive and condition-based maintenance
    • Targeted refurbishment programmes
    • Prioritised work-to lists and opportunistic maintenance
  • Create an environment of Continuous Improvement where machine downtime and machine-related quality defects reduce with time, embracing the appropriate improvement tools e.g. Pareto analysis, FMEA and RCFACMMS.
  • Develop and manage a cost-effective spare-parts holding.
  • Support the TPM programme, in particular giving support where needed.
  • Report machine and departmental performance through agreed KPIs.
  • Manage projects and ensure that all machine modifications are controlled.
  • Meet current legislative requirements and best installation practices.
  • Risk assessed for human, product and equipment impacts.
  • Relevant documentation is updated, spare-parts holding modified, training provided.
  • Control expenditure within agreed budgets and provide ongoing, accurate forecast.
  • Manage site contractors to ensure that safe working practices are applied and that work is completed within the agreed timescales and cost.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate or HND in an Engineering discipline.
  • Have management/supervisory experience in a maintenance or engineering function.
  • Proven experience in project management.
  • Track record of improving processes and goal achievement.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills and team leadership ability.
  • Has high level of numeracy with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of modern maintenance practices including Reliability Centred Maintenance, use of CMMS, spare parts management, modification and documentation control.
  • Able to demonstrate effective maintenance resource planning and scheduling.
  • A good understanding of Continuous Improvement / Six-sigma / Lean Manufacturing ideals and systems is desirable.
  • Health and Safety qualification or experience.
