Head of Investment Risk – Asset Management

We are working with a major investment management organisation to appoint an experienced Head of Investment Risk to lead an established risk function.
This is a senior and highly visible appointment, combining investment risk leadership, strategic development, governance and senior stakeholder engagement .
The successful individual will take responsibility for an established team and provide leadership across the firm’s investment risk framework. An important part of the mandate will be to assess the effectiveness of the existing approach, identify areas that can be strengthened and ensure that Investment Risk provides effective independent oversight and challenge while working constructively with the investment business.
The position offers significant exposure to senior investment professionals, executive management and governance forums and would suit someone comfortable operating at the highest levels of an investment organisation.
The role
Responsibilities will include:
- Leadership and development of an established Investment Risk function.
- Providing independent oversight and challenge across investment activities and portfolios.
- Assessing the effectiveness of the existing investment risk framework and identifying opportunities for further development.
- Ensuring appropriate clarity and effectiveness across risk ownership, oversight and challenge.
- Developing strong relationships with senior investment professionals while maintaining appropriate independence.
- Providing clear and commercially relevant risk insight to senior management and governance forums.
- Ensuring significant and emerging investment risks are appropriately identified, understood, challenged and escalated.
- Supporting senior-level regulatory and governance engagement.
- Continuing to develop the effectiveness and strategic contribution of Investment Risk across the organisation.
- Leading, coaching and developing a team of experienced risk professionals.
The individual
We are looking for a senior Investment Risk professional with substantial experience gained within asset management or a comparable investment environment .
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Significant investment risk experience with a strong understanding of portfolio and investment risks.
- Leadership experience within an Investment Risk function.
- Broad exposure across investment strategies and asset classes.
- A strong understanding of how independent risk oversight should interact with investment teams.
- Experience operating within senior governance and committee structures.
- The credibility to engage with executive management and senior external stakeholders.
- Excellent judgement and the ability to provide constructive, independent challenge.
- Strong people leadership and team-development capability.
- The ability to bring clarity, stability and structure within an evolving environment.
- A pragmatic and collaborative approach combined with appropriate independence.
There is a strong preference for candidates who have had experience with both the 1st and 2nd LOD.
