Barclay Simpson is supporting an established banking organisation in the appointment of a Senior Manager to lead its advanced credit risk analytics capability within the second-line risk function. This is a strategic but highly hands-on leadership position, combining people management, technical delivery and senior stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will lead a team of five analysts and take ownership of the direction, prioritisation and delivery of analytics work across the credit risk function.

The role is focused on modernising the way risk data is analysed, automated and communicated. This will include developing scalable Power BI reporting, using Python to automate recurring analytical processes and identifying opportunities to improve the quality, efficiency and value of risk insight. This is not a pure data science, IT or technology-transformation role. It requires someone who understands banking risk data, can identify practical applications for modern analytical tools and is comfortable personally contributing to technical delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of five data analysts.
  • Set the direction and priorities for the credit risk analytics capability.
  • Own the intake, assessment and prioritisation of analytics requirements across the Risk function.
  • Act as the principal analytics partner to senior Risk and business stakeholders.
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into clearly scoped analytical solutions.
  • Lead the development of scalable Power BI dashboards and management reporting.
  • Use Python and related tooling to automate data preparation, analysis and recurring reporting processes.
  • Identify opportunities to replace manual processes and improve analytical efficiency.
  • Ensure the team produces clear, relevant and commercially useful risk insight.
  • Manage competing priorities, delivery expectations and stakeholder relationships.
  • Support the continued development of the Bank’s wider risk analytics and reporting framework.
  • Ensure that analytical outputs operate in accordance with relevant risk and regulatory expectations.

Candidate profile

The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate:

  • Experience leading or managing an analytics team within banking or financial services.
  • Strong knowledge of banking risk data, ideally gained within Credit Risk, portfolio analytics, risk reporting, risk MI or a related function.
  • Practical experience designing and delivering Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions.
  • Experience using Python to automate analytical, data preparation or reporting processes.
  • A willingness to remain technically hands-on while leading and developing a team.
  • Strong senior stakeholder-management and communication skills.
  • The ability to establish priorities, give direction and develop new ideas independently.
  • A proven interest in coaching, mentoring and developing analysts.
  • A track record of delivering analytics solutions that improve efficiency, insight or decision-making.
  • A stable record of progression and delivery within permanent roles.

Candidates may come directly from a bank or from a leading consultancy. Consultancy candidates must have substantial experience delivering analytics, risk data or reporting assignments for banking clients. The opportunity is particularly well suited to an established Senior Manager, or an experienced Manager ready to assume broader leadership responsibility. It is unlikely to suit candidates whose experience is primarily within IT, software engineering, payments, pricing, marketing or customer analytics.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of an established team, shape the future analytics agenda and play a central role in modernising the use of data across a major banking Risk function.
