Are you a qualified Conveyancing Solicitor or CILEx looking for a role where quality genuinely comes first? We’re growing our Residential Conveyancing team in Thornbury, and we’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys building real client relationships, and wants to be part of a firm with a strong local reputation.
Why us? We do things differently. Rather than chasing transaction volumes, we focus on delivering a high‑quality, personal service, and our clients notice. We regularly receive glowing reviews on Google and Review Solicitors, which we think says it all. Our Residential Conveyancing team is one of the largest in Bristol, spanning four offices, with strong, established relationships with local estate agents. You’ll be joining a team that’s well‑connected, well‑regarded, and genuinely collaborative.
The role involves managing a varied caseload of residential property matters, including:
- Sales and purchases
- Transfers
- Remortgages
Day to day, you’ll be the trusted point of contact for your clients, guiding them through every stage of their transaction, from taking initial instructions right through to completion. This includes:
- Drafting and reviewing contract packages
- Raising enquiries
- Conducting searches
- Reporting on title and mortgage conditions
- Exchanging contracts
- Ensuring every matter completes smoothly and on time
You’ll also play an active role in business development, building on our existing estate agent connections and getting involved in marketing activity at an office and department level. On the accounts side, you’ll be comfortable handling the financial administration that keeps matters running: billing, completion statements, client payments, and telegraphic transfers, all in line with firm procedures.
About us: Barcan and Kirby is well known in the Bristol legal market both as a provider of excellent legal services for individuals and businesses, and as a progressive employer. At Barcan and Kirby, we work hard to maintain a culture of kindness and friendliness, and welcome applications from individuals who fit with our values. We like to think that we do things a bit differently from other law firms.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive or Licensed Conveyancer with no minimum years of qualification required. You should have a Law degree, or hold a CILEx Professional Qualification (CPQ), and previous experience, ideally in the Bristol property market. IT literacy and confidence in using and adapting to new systems and processes are essential. You should exercise high standards of client care and be enthusiastic about marketing and business development, particularly in social media and networking.
Location and working hours: Full‑time (office hours are 9am – 5.15pm, Monday to Friday). Part‑time applicants considered. Based at our office on Thornbury high street. You will have the option to apply for hybrid working post‑probation.
Belonging at Barcan and Kirby: We are committed to creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive working environment.
