About Barbourne Brook
We are looking for an experienced Customs Consultant to join our specialist advisory team. Our work goes beyond routine compliance. We help international businesses reduce customs duty costs, recover overpaid duties, manage regulatory risk, and optimise their global trade operations. You will work directly with client customs teams, finance leaders, and senior stakeholders, delivering technical reviews, duty optimisation projects, and compliance improvement programmes. This is a client-facing advisory role focused on solving complex international trade challenges and delivering measurable value for clients. The role does not involve routine customs declaration processing.
What You'll Do
- Deliver customs consulting projects for international clients across multiple sectors, many of which are household names
- Conduct customs health checks and technical reviews to identify risk and improvement opportunities
- Identify and implement duty savings strategies and customs planning opportunities
- Manage customs duty reclaim projects and support clients in recovering overpaid duties
- Support clients with customs governance, compliance frameworks, and risk management
- Provide ongoing advisory support to client customs teams
- Collaborate with internal consulting, technology, and commercial teams
- Deliver advisory work for clients without individual sales targets
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years customs experience in consulting or industry
- Strong technical knowledge of tariff classification, rules of origin, customs valuation, and Special Procedures, including experience implementing and operating Special Procedures regimes
- Experience delivering customs improvement or change projects
- Strong analytical capability, including advanced Excel
- Ability to manage multiple projects and client relationships
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex customs issues into practical solutions
- Training or workshop delivery experience is beneficial but not essential
